The second defect, alleged the plaintiffs, left the guns with no internal mechanism that would prevent the revolvers from discharging due to a hammer spur impact - a possibility if the gun is dropped or jostled. In addition to the defect that caused the Rossi revolvers to be prone to drop fire, the complaint contended that a second defect caused the internal safety feature to malfunction.
